Mission Committee
What is the Home Mission
Committee?
As you come into church Sunday
by Sunday have you ever wondered who the cheerful,
helpful people staffing
the Welcome Table are? Well, they are members of the Home
Mission Committee, there
to greet you, answer questions and generally to be helpful.
And that is one of the visible
tasks undertaken by the Committee but there are others.
At Christmas and Easter,
cards are delivered to every house in the parish, as is a
welcome letter in September
detailing the services and all activities in the Church
premises. The designs for
the cards are chosen by the Committee and this can be quite
time-consuming as first
of all designs must be found. Then it is usually over to Diane to
juggle with the format,
verify the wording and dispatch the original to the printer.
(Thank you, Diane). When
the cards are collected and bundled up for distribution, the
Committee members sit back
with fingers crossed in the hope that the good folk of the
congregation will uplift
all the bundles. If not, (un)willing horses cover several districts!
A fairly recent, and increasingly
popular, part of congregational life is the serving of coffee
every Sunday after the service.
The Committee draws up a rota of people ‘in charge’
who organise their own teams
and we are all very grateful to those people.
The highlight of the year
is the annual Mince Pie Sunday just before Christmas which is
organised by the Committee
who shop for all the goodies and decorate the tables to be
a little bit special. One
of our members keeps a watchful eye on the mince pies to
ensure that you are not
faced with plates of cinders. (Thank you, Graham).
The Committee also takes
over coffee duty when the united service with our two
neighbouring churches is
held in the Reid. Help with serving coffee is always welcome –
have a word with our friendly
Welcome Table people.
Come to coffee. Admire your
cards.
